RISHI RAM LAKSHMAN

Summary

Currently pursuing a Master's in Electromechanical Engineering with a focus on Industrial Management at KU Leuven, I have crafted a unique approach to broadening my skill set, with a focus on both the technical and non-technical domains. I am well-versed in engineering concepts and software regarding automation, design, and the intersection of both using the Digital Twin approach.

In addition, I also dabble with data-specific tools such as Python, SQL, and Power BI for project management and analysis. I also volunteer and upskill myself with management-related skills, and have a particular interest in business operations and optimization, which is also an important skill to have and practice alongside the technical approach in Engineering.

Work History

Process Engineering Intern

Toyota Industries Engine India Pvt Ltd
07.2022 - 08.2022
  • Digitization of Engine Production Sequence Sheet data using a .NET program to eliminate the risk of double scanning data, and also as a paper-saving measure (Eliminating Muda)- Reduced Paper Usage by around 250 sheets per day
  • Data Analysis of Tool Life Cycle using Python Programming in order to predict premature tool breakage using data of spindle load of the tool
  • This was used to find ideal operation limits of the tool and identify wear limit- Found to be 245 cycles (Idea of Kaizen)
  • PLC programming using PCWIN2 to introduce Poka-Yoke systems to address specific faults within the production line, aimed at adding Interlocks to detect faults within the line for early detection of possible line faults
  • Design and analysis of bearing placement Jig using AutoCad, to allow for sensors to be built into the Jig to eliminate risk of incorrect placement of bearing (leading to irregular heating) as a Poka-Yoke measure

Business Relations Volunteer

Aetherspace
09.2022 - Current

A part of the Business Relations domain for the student-led CubeSat team, which involves raising funding by identifying possible partners and pitching to them. This also involves following up with partners regularly, and making sure the deliverables to the partners are met.

• The team has currently achieved its target of raising funds in its third year of operation (2022-2023) and is currently preparing to raise funds for the coming year with a 30% increase from the previous year.

• Worked on streamlining the long-term financial plan that was approved by the board for the entire duration of the project (7 Years)

Operations Lead

Project Statecraft- A Youth Led Policy Think Tank
09.2020 - 08.2021

Initially working in the capacity of an Operations Associate, I was promoted to Head of Operations of the policy think tank within a duration of 3 months at the organization .

• My work consisted of facilitating all logistical and operational tasks, including major communications with all verticals to ensure the smooth functioning of the organization, and looking into new avenues for collaborations and partnerships .

Streamlined Organizational Processes by introducing well-defined structures and SOP's that are still in place and run the organization sustainably .

• Led a study on the research output of the organization, and made recommendations that resulted in a regular and sustainable output of research on a bi-weekly basis , while eliminating the blocks between the research and the editorial team.

Substantive Core Training Member

Model United Nations Society, Vellore Institute of Technology
12.2019 - 08.2021

Worked with the Model UN Society of Vellore Institute Of Technology, in the capacity of a core committee member. This entailed attending conferences, where I have won 9 awards in 12 conferences , and organized major events that have garnered the participation of over 100+ people.

• Have trained the new recruits, primarily training in Economic-based Committees , that have helped the them win awards in multiple conferences across India.

Academic Projects

Agility In Food Production- Study of the Decoupling Point, Master Thesis

Currently undertaking a feasibility study of a shift in the decoupling point in the food industry value chain, as a part of the Master Thesis.

  • The aim is to work with established companies to enhance their value chain in line with the current trend of mass customization in the food industry, which keeps low lead times and inventory.
  • The goal is to form a decision matrix with multiple variables which will help organizations assess feasibility of shifting the decoupling point further inward in the supply chain, as well as establish methods to do so practically.

Determining The Optimal Motor Acceleration for Parallel-Axis SCARA Robot using Digital Twin testing, Bachelor Thesis

Created a digital twin of a parallel-axis SCARA robot, to re-arrange objects on an assembly line for Just-In-Time manufacturing.

  • This included election of all mechanical and electrical components, designing the robot, and automating the movement using Siemens TIA Portal.
  • Further validation of the selected motor vis-à-vis payload was conducted to determine the optimal motor setting to be used for a particular weight class of objects, in order to minimize variations in cycle time while maintaining the motor threshold torque.
  • Analysis resulted in data-oriented recommendations for 3 ranges of robots for weight classes from 20 grams to 7 Kg, suggested the best motor options for each range.
