Dynamic medical student with plenty of hands-on experience excited to expand her skills abroad and get a different perspective on the practice of Medicine which can sometimes differ between two countries, which altogether creates a chance to learn new things. She and all other medical students at the University of Antwerp are encouraged to complete part of their compulsory medical clerkships abroad to come into contact with different patient demographics and epidemiology.

- Gained hands-on experience in chronic patient care. The aging population is a big part of the demographics in Belgium and mostly relies on family medicine for regular follow-ups and further care if needed, so understanding this patient base and what care is provided to them, was essential in my training to become an MD.

- Patient relationships and communication skills: because the University of Antwerp believes that no doctor can help a patient without a thorough consultation, we take part in mandatory communication classes throughout medical school regarding professional communication with patients, which is why we are expected by our Faculty to actively ask for permission to do consultations ourselves with the guidance of the responsible MD, during internships
- Practical medical skills: basic medical skills, such as a neurological examination, bloodwork investigation, suturing, gynecologic and urologic examination, etc, which the Faculty of Medicine believes any MD should master before applying for a specialty, are taught to us from the start of Medical School and tested every other year, to ensure we are as up to date as possible
- Report writing: A bachelor and master thesis are mandatory during our education I wrote my bachelor thesis on the effects of CAR-T cell therapy on auto-immune diseases in adults and will be writing my master thesis on its long-term effects in adults treated for B-cell malignancies For this thesis I will be working with the Department of Neurology and the Department of Hematology at UZA Prof dr Barbara Willekens and Prof dr Sébastien Anguille are my promotors
- Professionalism and etiquette: this is a particularly important subject and we are instructed on a regular basis to ensure we preserve and protect patient privacy and care
