I discovered a particular interest in the commodity industry and trading during my time at Air Liquide, particularly the dynamic and fast-paced world of commodity trading. My aim is to start my career by gaining hands-on experience in trading operations (as a shipping and trader operator), which I believe is a critical stepping stone to understand the intricate processes and flows behind each trade. I hope to immerse myself in the operational backbone of trading so I can build a solid foundation in logistics, risk management, commercial insight and coordination, with the goal of preparing myself for a future transition at the trading desk. In my opinion, this role offers the perfect opportunity to develop this expertise and contribute to the commodity trading industry while honing my skills in a challenging, collaborative environment.
As a Operations Engineer, I manage a 3,000 km pipeline network spanning the Benelux and West Germany, ensuring efficient and reliable operations. My responsibilities include performing accurate day-ahead nominations for natural gas and electricity to support production units (H₂, CO, O₂, N₂, and Ar) while optimising pipeline efficiency through strategic planning implementation. I oversee customer forecasts to maintain consistent delivery, and swiftly resolve unforeseen network issues to ensure operational stability. Collaborating closely within a team of three operations engineers, I contribute to the seamless functioning of our extensive infrastructure.
As a Nuclear engineer at the Doel Nuclear Power Plant (DNPP), I started an 18-month program covering nuclear fundamentals, safety protocols, radiation protection, and plant operations. I gained expertise in operating and managing the plant’s circuits and processes through theoretical training and simulator practice. Following this, I contributed to operational tasks and technical projects in departments such as Operations and Engineering, focusing on safety and efficiency. The program equipped me for roles like instructor or testing engineer, supporting advancements in the nuclear energy sector. Unfortunately, I realized that I was more in search of a position that challenged me on a commercial level as well. Hence, the reason why I accepted an offer at Air Liquide as an operations engineer.
I enjoy a variety of activities, including financial pursuits like dividend investing, creative and intellectual interests such as literature and comedy, and active hobbies like hiking, wave surfing, swimming, and hiking.
