Ezéchiel Amani Cirimwami is a distinguished academic holding dual Doctorates, one in Legal Studies from the Catholic University of Louvain (UCLouvain) and another in Law from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). He is currently a Professor of International Law at VUB and lectures as a visiting professor at UCLouvain and the Royal Military Academy of Belgium. Previously, Prof. Amani served as a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Procedural Law in Luxembourg, where he also acted as associate editor for the Max Planck Encyclopedia of International Procedural Law. In addition to his academic work, Prof. Amani acts as counsel in numerous cases before prominent international courts and tribunals, including the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, and the East African Court of Justice. He brings significant experience negotiating and drafting international treaties, notably joining the Ljubljana diplomatic negotiations that led to the adoption of the Ljubljana-The Hague Convention on International Cooperation in the Investigation and Prosecution of Genocide, Crimes against Humanity, War Crimes, and Other International Crimes. He was also elected to the Drafting Committee during this conference. Prof. Amani’s research has appeared in multiple international peer-reviewed journals and blogs, receiving citations from the International Law Commission (ILC). He received an award from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for his impact in the field. His research interests span key fields in international law, including international procedural law, international dispute resolution, international human rights law, international criminal law, and international humanitarian law.
